Brenda Roe30s, 1970s, prostaglandin, maternalindications, quackery SUMMARY: “Brenda,” age 31, died from complications during a prostaglandin abortion performed sometime around 1974.
“Brenda” is one of the women Life Dynamics identifies on their “Blackmun Wall” as having been killed by a safe and legal abortion.
Brenda was 31 years old, with damage to her pancreas and kidneys due to chronic alcoholism. She was 20 weeks into her second pregnancy when her doctors decided to treat her health problems with an abortion.
Brenda was given two doses of prostglandin. If all went as planned, the prostaglandin would cause intense contractions, killing the fetus during delivery.
One of the side effects of prostaglandin is nausea and possible vomiting. Brenda began to vomit, breathing some of the vomit into her lungs and choking.
Brenda died some time between 1972 and 1975.
As you can see from the graph below, abortion deaths were falling dramatically before legalization. This steep fall had been in place for decades. To argue that legalization lowered abortion mortality simply isn’t supported by the data.
