Kittie Bassett

On October 3, 1895, Mrs. Kittie Bassett died in Chicago from complications of an abortion perpetrated on September 24 by Dr. Pauline Bechtel.

Bechtel admitted that she’d performed the abortion, but asserted that Kittie would not have died if she had followed her aftercare instructions.

Bechtel was later implicated in the 1900 abortion deaths of Mrs. Ida Henry and Barbara Shelgren and the 1911 abortion death of Mary Thorning.
