SUMMARY: Millie T, age 25, died on December 22 or 23, 1908 in Cook County Hospital after an abortion perpetrated by a midwife.

MillieT.jpgOn December 22, 1908, “Miss T,” whom I’ve dubbed “Millie,” was admitted to Cook County Hospital. For several days she had suffered abdominal and pelvic pain, along with some bleeding, after an abortion performed by a midwife.

On admission Millie appeared weak and restless. She had bouts of vomiting. Her abdomen was distended and tender. Her vital signs were alarming: pulse of 156, respirations of 36, and a temperature of 105.

She was considered moribund upon admission and died twelve hours later.
