On July 7, 1941, 27-year-old mother of two Emma Laisure went to the office of Dr. Nathaniel H. Schaffner in Chicago. Her husband, Earl, had made the arrangements and paid Schaffner $40 for an abortion. Emma died before Schaffner could even complete the abortion.
Schaffner was convicted of murder for Emma’s death in 1942, and was sentenced to 14 years. Sadly, he was released in 1950 and went right back to the abortion business, getting caught when he went to a patient’s house the day after her abortion and raping her. Before the police got around to arresting him, the victim’s husband and father-in-law nabbed Schaffner and beat him severely.
Schaffner’s behavior put me immediately in mind of Dr. Nabil Ghali, a habitual abortionist and rapist of the post-Roe era.
