On August 10, 1889, 20-year-old seamstress Nellie Martin died in Cambridge, Massachusetts from post-abortion peritonitis in the dubious care of “abortion fiend” Dr. Harry S. Harper, aka Stanford, of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Other Harper patients also died around the same time.
